Good value for a first timer

I was looking for a good deal for my first time in Costa Rica and found Volcano Lodge. I booked with a breakfast included rate, which saved me a bit each morning. The Superior Room was comfortable, and the hot springs access was a nice perk. I felt like I got a fair price for what I paid, definitely worth the purchase. It wasn't the cheapest place, but the amenities made it feel like a good deal overall.

Always a great stay

Another solid experience at Volcano Lodge. I booked a Junior Suite again this time, and it was just as good as my last visit. The hot springs were clean and relaxing, and the Sura Bar and Grill had some tasty options. They're consistently reliable, which is why I keep coming back when I'm in Arenal.

Detailed review of my stay

I stayed in a Superior Room for three nights. The booking process on their website was straightforward, I used a seasonal promotion. Check-in was smooth, the front desk staff was efficient and friendly. The room itself was clean, though not overly spacious, and had a nice view of the gardens. I used the Thermal Springs Access every evening; they were well-maintained and never too crowded. I also did a Guided Nature Walk, which was informative. Delivery of room service took about 40 minutes one evening but the food was hot. Overall, a pleasant stay with good service and amenities. The location near the volcano is a big plus.

Nice trip to Costa Rica

Went to Volcano Lodge with some friends, got the Thermal Springs Access. It was really chill, like just what we needed after a long flight. The grounds were pretty, lots of cool plants. The staff was friendly too, like they actually cared if you were having a good time. Would totally recommend for a relaxing day.

Is breakfast usually included in the standard room rate? Or is that an add-on you have to pay extra for?

A Anna R. 3 weeks ago
Most of the time it is! I've booked a few times and breakfast was always part of the deal. They also have 'breakfast included' rates explicitly.

P Paula 3 weeks ago
Yeah, pretty sure it's standard, at least for the main room types. They do mention 'breakfast included rates' so I guess sometimes it's a specific package.

Hey, quick question about the hot springs. Are they open all the time for guests or do they have specific hours?

R Raj 1 month ago
Nah, they're not 24/7. I remember them closing at night, maybe around 10 or 11 PM? Check their site for exact times.

Most hotel hot springs aren't 24/7 for safety reasons and cleaning. I think these are the same, they definitely close for some hours overnight.

Thinking of booking for next March, is it worth getting something now for an early bird discount or should I wait for last minute deals closer to the time?

J Jared Bennett 3 weeks ago
I'd say book early for March, it's one of their busy times. You'll probably get a better discount booking in advance.

Yeah, I went in Jan last year and prices were kinda high. They seem to have good early bird stuff if you plan ahead. Last minute might be more of a gamble during peak season.

Trying to decide between Volcano Lodge and Tabacon. Anyone been to both? What's the vibe difference like?

C Chris S. 1 month ago
Volcano Lodge feels a bit more chill and spread out, kinda like being in a garden with springs. Tabacon is super nice too, but can feel a bit more 'resorty' and sometimes a bit more crowded in the main springs area.

I'd say Volcano Lodge is a bit more intimate, maybe a bit less 'luxury brand' feeling than Tabacon, but still really nice. The private springs at Volcano Lodge are a huge plus if you value that quiet time. Tabacon's main springs are impressive though.

Does anyone know if all the rooms have a volcano view? That's kinda why we're going, don't want to be disappointed.

C Colin 3 weeks ago
Not all rooms, no. You gotta book specific room types if you want a guaranteed volcano view. Some are definitely better than others for it.

I thought they had an option when you book to select a volcano view room or not. I'd double check the room descriptions on their site or call them direct to make sure you get one.
